What is your favorite quick and healthy go-to snack?

My go-to is an Owyn Protein drink but I love coating rice cakes with sun-nut butter and sliced banana on top.

How do you stay healthy while traveling?

Plan, plan, plan! Airports are full of tempting snacks but I’ve learned my lesson not to start or end traveling coming down from a sugar rush. I bring my own snacks such as fruit, bars, and popcorn. As far as eating out I believe you should enjoy yourself. Just don’t overdo it. If you know you’re going to have an indulgent dinner then maybe eat on the lighter side during the day. It’s all about balance.

If you could make anything in the world dairy-free what would it be?

Ice cream and pizza. But living in New York, we have PLENTY of restaurants that substitute the cheese and milk for non-dairy options. I’m lucky I even have that as an option. I love coconut yogurt too but don’t mind eating it how it is in moderation.

Do you have any food allergies or sensitivities? If so, what are they and how do you manage them?

I don’t have any- that I know of that is. If I feel sick from something, I know I went a little overboard and need to hydrate and eat my greens! My dad was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes around the age of 31 so I need to be sure to watch my sugar intake since it runs in the family.

The fewer ingredients the better.

What is your favorite quick and healthy go-to snack?

Any kind of fruit! Apples, bananas, berries … even frozen grapes in the summer!

How do you stay healthy while traveling?

I always start with a healthy and filling breakfast to get the day started, then I bring gluten free bars, fruit and an OWYN protein drink just in case I can’t find a safe gluten free lunch and for those in between times when I get hungry. One great thing about the portable OWYN drinks is that they taste great even when they’re not refrigerated, so I can have nutrition and hydration anytime just by grabbing a bottle of OWYN for the road!

If you could make anything in the world dairy-free what would it be?

I wish EVERY ice cream was dairy-free. For real.

Do you have any food allergies or sensitivities? If so, what are they and how do you manage them?

Yes, I have celiac disease and I’m lactose intolerant. There are other foods that don’t like me too, like garlic and onions! Aside from avoiding these foods and of course avoiding gluten, I try to find ways to re-create all my favorite dishes free of gluten and dairy so that I don’t feel deprived or depressed about going without. Deprivation is never a recipe for success, and I’ve been able to make delicious recipes for nearly anything I crave at home.

Don’t give up on your favorite foods just because they contain something that’s off limits to your diet, just make them a little differently! That could mean making them without a food allergen or gluten (in my case), or it could even mean making them healthier. I’ve used OWYN drinks in many indulgent recipes and felt great about adding nutrition to something that would ordinarily be a really sinful treat … like ice cream, brownies, pound cake and even donut holes! It feels great to enjoy something so decadent and know that it’s not so bad for you after all!

What is your favorite quick and healthy go-to snack?

OWYN cookies and cream is my favorite. So easy to grab and I know I'm putting in good, clean, nutritious ingredients into my body instead of empty calories!

How do you stay healthy while traveling?

I'm a firm believer in "everything in moderation." I try to keep up a semblance of my home routine while traveling, but I for sure indulge here and there. If I'm in Italy, you know I'm eating pasta. The key for me on vacation is staying active. It's so easy to indulge and then veg out while you're traveling, but if you take 30 minutes for physical activity each day (even doing a hotel room workout like Melissa Wood Health), that feels like balance to me.

If you could make anything in the world dairy-free what would it be?

Pizza! If it would taste the same :) I've had a lot of vegan pizzas that claim to taste like the real thing, but they don't. Tragedy! If anyone has found a good substitute in LA, PLEASE DM me.

Do you have any food allergies or sensitivities? If so, what are they and how do you manage them?

I'm 100% dairy-free now. There are so many good alternatives now, especially living in LA, that it's very easy to avoid and manage. Coconut milk, cashew milk, and oat milk are my go-to's!

If you could share one piece of healthy eating advice with the world what would it be?

Moderation is key. Deprivation, for me specifically, is not the answer. If I had to describe my diet, it would be 80/20—clean, healthy foods 80% of the time and healthy-ish treats 20% of the time.

How do you stay healthy while traveling?

I always have an OWYN drink in my bag, so I have a healthy snack whenever I want.

If you could make anything in the world dairy-free what would it be?

I would want the perfect dairy-free queso. I am searching for dairy-free queso that tastes close to the dairy option and has the same consistency.

Do you have any food allergies or sensitivities? If so, what are they and how do you manage them?

Yes, I am gluten-free, vegetarian, almond-free and dairy sensitive. Previous to that, my children have multiple life-threatening food allergies. Through all of that, I have learned to take it slow, do your research/prep and you can make anything happen. You do not have to let food allergies slow down your life!

Always have healthy options available. That is extremely helpful for keeping on track with healthy eating!
