  1. Artificial Sweeteners, Flavors, and Colors. Artificial ingredients can have negative health effects. Artificial sweeteners, like sucralose, can damage gut health, while artificial colors and other artificial food additives can cause respiratory problems and irritability.
  2. Sugar Alcohols. These can lead to gastrointestinal issues, such as bloating and constipation, and exacerbation of IBS symptoms. Sugar alcohols can also slightly influence blood sugar levels. Common names to watch out for include maltitol, erythritol, sorbitol, and xylitol.
